Estate Planning

Estate Planning: something we all need yet generally overlook. If you own a home, have children, are married, have an IRA, retirement account, life insurance policy or even a pet, then drafting an estate plan should be on your to-do list.

Estate plans can be as simple as having a Will with designated Powers of Attorney, or as detailed as having a Living Trust and a Marital Property Agreement. Simple estate plans, such as a Will, allow for your loved ones to distribute your assets with relative ease through the probate process. Detailed estate plans, with a properly funded Trust, allows your loved ones to avoid the probate process entirely and distribute your assets to your beneficiaries in the time and fashion of your choosing.

O’Connor Law Offices offers custom estate plans to fit you and your family’s life. Our estate attorneys will work with you to draft an estate plan considering all your needs, goals, and wishes. Our approach is to provide you with the plan that works for you while avoiding needless complexities and confusing terms. By the time your plan is signed, you will feel secure in knowing your assets will be distributed in accordance with your wishes. Once the plan is drafted to your specifications, we work with you on coordinating your assets with your new plan. This is commonly referred to as “funding” the estate plan.

We utilize many different tools when drafting estate plans. At the initial meeting we will discuss which tools are most appropriate for you. We will counsel you on the benefits and limitations of each tool and devise a plan most suitable for your situation. Our tools include:

  • Wills
  • Revocable Living Trust
  • Marital Property Agreements
  • Powers of Attorney for Financials and Health Care
  • Living Wills (aka Declaration to Physicians)
  • Beneficiary Designations
  • Funeral Instructions

Call our office today to schedule your free initial consultation and see how we can assist you with drafting your new estate plan.
